AAEF was founded to fill a gap no other organisation was addressing — a structured, culturally governed pathway from instability to enterprise.
Our mission
Closing the Enterprise Gap
Across Australia, Aboriginal adults face systemic barriers that prevent them from accessing the stability, skills, and support needed to build sustainable enterprises. Mainstream programs often fail to account for cultural context, trauma history, or the practical realities of life on the margins.
AAEF was established to change that. We provide a three-stage pathway — Safety House, Life Skills Retreat, and Business House — that meets people where they are and walks alongside them toward economic independence.
Our model is designed for national rollout, with the goal of establishing AAEF hubs in communities across Australia where the need is greatest.

Karl Eales founded AAEF after years of working directly with Aboriginal communities and witnessing firsthand the absence of a structured, culturally safe pathway from crisis to enterprise.
Karl's vision was simple but profound: create an organisation that combines cultural governance, practical life skills, and real business development into a single, cohesive journey — one that respects the whole person and the community they come from.
Under Karl's leadership, AAEF has developed a replicable model built on lived experience, community consultation, and a deep commitment to Aboriginal self-determination.

At AAEF, cultural governance is not a box to tick — it is the foundation on which everything is built. Aboriginal cultural protocols, Elders' guidance, and community accountability are embedded throughout our programs and organisational structure.
This means our participants are never asked to leave their culture at the door. Instead, culture is the framework through which healing, learning, and enterprise development takes place.
